While the role of executive coach is the product of significant training and practice, we quickly saw the power of equipping our clients with simplified “coach-approach” to working with their own staff and teams. In response, we developed CALM Conversations: a Coach Approach to Leading and Managing that addresses the desire of many to change the way conversations are held with teams, colleagues, direct reports and supervisors.
CALM Conversations are designed using a similar but simplified approach to the conversations executive coaches use when working with their clients. They are not designed to replace the role of a certified executive coach; rather:
When it comes to performance and results in sports, a great coach can take an athlete or a team to gold. Similarly, a great supervisor can support employees and teams to move to brilliance.
Sadly, not everyone who is the position of manager or supervisor has had the training needed to bring out the best in those they work with. The result can leave staff feeling frustrated, and managers and supervisors struggling to get their teams on track.
Recognizing the gap, many organizations have turned to executive coaching as a means to support their top performers to become even better. And it works. So much so that our clients were asking us to teach them how they could use coaching with their own staff: a model they could use to elevate their interactions with staff from “chats” to conversations that were like the ones they experienced in their executive coaching sessions.
Key Components of CALM Conversations Training:
• Full-day workshop.
• Journal for self-reflection.
• Team coaching on a regular basis.
• Measures of impact.
